I am absolutely delighted to welcome author of Oblivion, Sasha Dawn to the blog today to share a peek into the iPod of Callie, the protagonist in Oblivion.
Her YA debut, Oblivion has had a lot of great response. Oblivion has been described as Lisa McMann's Dead to You meets Kate Ellison's The Butterfly Clues!
So without further ado let me turn the blog over to Sasha!

Ten Truths About Being Sasha Dawn
• I’m often writing—laptop open, fingers tapping keys—before my eyes open in the morning.
• I love the musical CATS. Who doesn’t adore felines who can tap dance? Wait…those are people? Dressed as cats? Wow. Excellent costuming.
• I have a tattoo of the Playboy bunny on the inside of my left ankle. I tell people it’s because I was in a small pictorial in my twenties. But I’m lying.
• I’ve probably seen Midnight in Paris over 100 times. I keep waiting to meet Ernest Hemingway during my bouts of insomnia, but I guess only Owen Wilson is allowed such a luxury. It’s probably a good thing. I think Hemingway and I might be dangerous together. Not as a writing team, but as…well, you know.
• I have two daughters. I make them write essays, complete with thesis statements, about each other when they fight. If they’re snarky or negative, they revise until they realize my children are decadent specimens of the human being.
• I’ve recently read Palahniuk’s Fight Club…again. It’s incredible. I’d tell you about it, but the first rule about Fight Club is that you don’t talk about Fight Club. The second rule about Fight Club is that you don’t talk about Fight Club. I’ve already said too much.
• I am a survivor. I accept that people are imperfect. I embrace oddities and errors. That’s why I create flawed characters. Even the unlikeable are intriguing, and I wish the rest of the world would get on board, already.
• I haven’t watched regular, prime time television since Friends was all the rage. I’m most like Phoebe. Joshua is most like Joey. It’s no wonder, really, that we get along so well. (Note: know how I got Joshua to commit? I fed him. Once.)
• Pandas used to be my favorite animal, but then Melissa McCarthy told me that koalas are telepathic and control the weather (see Nines…and thanks to Jessica Warman for introducing me to this cinematic gem). I like the koala now. And I wonder why both the panda and the koala are coined “bears.” Does anyone know?
• I’m an avid Chicago White Sox fan. Remember what I said earlier? I embrace imperfection? Anyway, every year, I choose one player to be my crush for the season. It’s been A.J. Pierzynski, it seems, since the dawn of time. But his Sox are Red this season. Come back to us, A.J., and I’ll kick Conor Gillaspie to the curb.

Synopsis:
One year ago, Callie was found in an abandoned apartment, scrawling words on the wall: "I KILLED HIM. His blood is on my hands. His heart is in my soul. I KILLED HIM." But she remembers nothing of that night or of the previous thirty-six hours. All she knows is that her father, the reverend at the Church of the Holy Promise, is missing, as is Hannah, a young girl from the parish. Their disappearances have to be connected and Callie knows that her father was not a righteous man.
Since that fateful night, she's been plagued by graphomania -- an unending and debilitating compulsion to write. The words that flow from Callie's mind and through her pen don't seem to make sense -- until now.
As the anniversary of Hannah's vanishing approaches, more words and memories bubble to the surface and a new guy in school might be the key to Callie putting together the puzzle. But digging up the secrets she's buried for so long might be her biggest mistake.

I love the playlist - and yes, I apparently have very similar tastes!! I would absolutely listen to this playlist ... and I may in fact have to set it up for myself on Spotify! Loved reading Sasha's truths, both humorous and profound. Can I just say that your approach to fighting sisters is *brilliant*?! (Although I guarantee that my teenage self of many, many moons ago would definitely not have agreed with my current mom self!) My favorite of your truths is that you are a survivor and you embrace the oddities and errors of life, as well as the unlikeability of (some) people, and the flawed nature of others. All I have to say to that is, HERE, HERE!!! (Or is it "Hear, hear"?! I've never definitively known that one....)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, needless to say, I really enjoyed this guest post and look forward to listening to this playlist. [Side note: I think two of the best songs ever written (albeit for very different reasons) are on there: If I Were a Boy and Bohemian Rhapsody. I like your taste, Sasha!!] I mentioned to Sasha on Twitter that I just checked out Oblivion from my library and am eager to read it!! To win my own copy would be a treat. Thanks!!
Queen, Metallica, Pete Townshend, Pitbull and Kesha, The Killers...what a great playlist! The book also sounds amazing. I can't wait to read it. Thanks!
