The Unputdownable Reads of 2014

Occasionally we come across books that are so engrossing that the very idea of putting them down is blasphemous. Sometimes it is the writing that compels you to turn the pages, sometimes it is the plot that has you riveted. And sometimes it's the characters that capture your mind and ensnare your heart.

Whatever the reason is, there is no doubt that these books make it physically impossible for you to stop reading them. So today I'll be sharing seven such unputdownable books:

• Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by  Benjamin Alire Sáenz

“I bet you could sometimes find all the mysteries of the universe in someone's hand.” 

This YA GLBT about two Mexican teens is guaranteed to blow you away. Sáenz  combines gorgeous prose with a realistic portrayal of adolescents coming to terms with their identity and delivers a simple yet powerful story.

If I had to purchase one book with my last $20 it would be Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. Yes, it is that good. 

• On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta 

“It's funny how you can forget everything except people loving you. Maybe that's why humans find it so hard getting over love affairs. It's not the pain they're getting over, it's the love.” 

Melina Marchetta is a sorceress. That's the only rational explanation I was left with after I finished On the Jellicoe Road. Because what kind of author leaves your speechless after you close the book other than one who practices the art of magic? 

• Faking Normal by  Courtney C. Stevens 

“Bravery comes one day at a time.”

 Love. Faith. Hope. Friendship. Forgiveness. Courage.
Faking Normal delivers this message in a powerful package of mystery, riveting prose and romance.

• The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

And yes, the ending made me cry. SO MANY FEELS, GUYS.

• The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon

“Nothing’s worse than a story without an end.” 

Clairvoyance. A dystopian society. Slow burning romance. A beautifully complex protagonist. A mind-blowing plot.

It has a cliff hanger-ish ending(THANK YOU, SAMANTHA) so I'm absolutely dying to read the sequel. IS IT JANUARY 2015 yet??
