Chasing that elusive inspiration

Inspiration is a funny and elusive thing. One day it's there and the next it's gone.

We put on some tunes, grab a cup of coffee, park ourselves in front of laptops and try to create something beautiful.
After a hour of aimlessly scrolling through our twitter feed we are left with fingers hovering our keyboards and staring at a blank white screen.

We all need something. Something to keep us moved. Something to us fill us with the need to create something wonderfully awesome. Something to inspire us.

During my one month offline project I learnt a few things about inspiration that I want to share with you. Cause you know, I'm awesome like that. ;)

Get out

Feeling stuck? You need a dose of outside-ness (yep, I made that up).
Take a walk by yourself, go out with your friends, browse a bookstore, go shopping or grab your camera and photograph anything and everything that catches your eye.
Inspiration is often freely available, all you need to do is step out and look around. So disconnect and get on your way because there is this amazing thing waiting to be created.

Mix it up

Thinking of taking on a guest reviewer? Want to change your medium? Want to introduce a new feature? Is there something that you've always wanted to try but assumed you couldn't?
Go for it!
Progress is impossible without change. So break that routine and do something new.

Carpe the hell out of this diem

There are days when you are simply bursting with inspiration and ideas. Make the most out of these productive streaks.
Carry a notebook and pen so that when inspiration strikes you can immediately write it down. This way you'll never run out of ideas!
Make lists. Nothing gets me more motivated than a to-do list and a deadline!
Break your tasks up,establish a time limit and once you get it done, reward yourself. Treat yo' self with a cookie (chocolate chip for the win!), an episode of Teen Wolf that you've been dying to catch (STILES) or 15 minutes on Tumblr (ALL THOSE HUNKS, CAT GIFS AND FOOD PORN).

Grow

Commit yourself to learning something new. Whether it's enrolling for a graphic design class, doing free web search on SEO or reading newsletters and other blogs, do it.
Educate yourself not just in the field that you are interested but in every other area as well.

So say yes to new adventures, surround yourself with the people, words, sounds and images that make you feel, find your groove and never stop learning.

So tell me what inspires you? How do you keep that creative energy high?

Remember, be bold or italic but never regular. ;)

Have a lovely weekend, guys!
xoxo

  4. This post is so full of awesome. x) If inspiration isn't coming, I like to just toss everything and go for a walk. It REALLY helps! And on the days when the inspiration runs? I run with it. Don't put it off. LOVE this list!
