Synopsis:
Everyone should have something to rebel against.
Crank Wilson left his South Boston home at sixteen to start a punk band and burn out his rage at the world. Six years later, he’s still at odds with his father, a Boston cop, and doesn’t ever speak to his mother. The only relationship that really matters is with his younger brother, but watching out for Sean can be a full-time job. The one thing Crank wants in life is to be left the hell alone to write his music and drive his band to success.
Julia Thompson left a secret behind in Beijing that exploded into scandal in Washington, DC, threatening her father's career and dominating her family's life. Now, in her senior year at Harvard, she's haunted by a voice from her past and refuses to ever lose control of her emotions again, especially when it comes to a guy.
When Julia and Crank meet at an anti-war protest in Washington in the fall of 2002, the connection between them is so powerful it threatens to tear everything apart.
My Thoughts
This story was very fun to read, and I didn't
want to put it down after reading the first few pages. Crank, he really can be
a pig, but I like his frankness. Being a too perfect male lead is boring, where
is all the fun in that right?
I've read a lot of stories wherein there's the
rich girl being controlled by her parents and making her do things she didn't
want to do. And yes, Julia, is one of those girls. I thought that I was going
to hate her, because let's face it, those kinds of girls can be selfish
sometimes. But Julia, I saw the growth in her and I admire her courage. You'd
think that she will forever be hiding behind the shadows of her mommy and
daddy, but no, Julia's different. She knew that she had to go figure out who
she wanted to be and she will take that path and if she has to leave her family
for it, she will.
Crank's, well, hmm... Here's what he thinks of
himself.
"So we walked to the elevators, me slightly behind her, so I could look at her butt as she walked. I never said I wasn’t a bit of a pig … or maybe a lot. But some things you just have to appreciate. And Julia, even in a business-like skirt and jacket, is just too hot not to look at."
See. He's a pig right? That's what I always thought about him, but hey at least he's honest about it (LOL). But there is more to Crank that I've grown to like about him. First, he loves his band and their music so much. "Music had always been my refuge, my passion." He cares so much for his family, especially his brother, Sean, who has Asperger's and who needs a lot of love and attention.

I love the fact that Julia and Crank weren't the mushy type of couple. They call each other names and they get very mad at each other. But in the end, they always make up and see each other's worth anyway. And, they really crack me up with their lines!
I really liked A SONG FOR JULIA. Hell, it even
made me cry at the end, and that only rarely happens. Plus, dual POVs! You'll
know what's going on in both of their minds and you'll feel the raw emotions
from both Julia and Crank. These two both have commitment issues, and a lot of
other issues, but they faced those together and they survived through all of it.
A Song for Julia will teach us and inspire us that if we are determined to do something, we can achieve it, as long as we have the drive and the passion for it. Julia and Crank helped each other to be better individuals, and to figure out who they really are, and what they want to be. Yes, there can be terrible things that can happen in one's life, but love and support will help heal all of that pain away... and time. That's something I learned from Julia and Crank. So thanks to Charles Sheehan-Miles for sharing their story to all of us.

Sounds good, I love dual POV and especially male POV. And Crank sounds like fun, I don't mind pigs when they are funny ones!
