Title: To My Hero: A Blog of Our Journey Together
Expected Publication: April 2013
Synopsis:

It would’ve been different if I had courage, even an ounce of it. But I was a coward from the day I met you, Ryan Crowley. I still am. In the end it doesn’t matter. The bottom line is the same. It’s my fault.

When the unthinkable happens Carly Cavanough is left beaten, betrayed, and devastated. Her best friend doesn’t understand. Her parents won’t listen. Everyone in her life turns against her. She’s alone. Completely alone, except for Ryan Crowley, the boy she’s been crushing on for years. She won’t admit to him what she can’t admit to herself. But he understands without words. He knows more about what she’s going through than she can possibly imagine and he knows what it will take to start the healing.

With Ryan’s help Carly begins to piece together the fragments of her once perfect life and embarks on a journey of love and healing, just long enough for the rug to be pulled out from under her again. Can she find the strength and will to pull herself together to save Ryan and herself when their lives are on the line?

Sounds great, doesn't it? :) So go on, add it to your TBR list!
To My Hero will be released in a few days so I'm super excited for it.

Sometimes it’s just a whisper, a faint sound playing at the back or your mind. This time the noise was loud, a thundering voice shouting out to me, this story was different, and it needed to be told in a special way.

To My Hero: A Blog of Our Journey Together is an emotional story where a series of misunderstandings lead to life altering and fatal consequences.  Carly Cavanough’s parents force her to spend New Year’s Eve with them and the family of a highly influential client. The client’s son Will Langdon takes a liking to Carly and steels a kiss from her. When Ryan Crowley, the boy she was supposed to spend New Year’s with finds out, he won’t let her explain what happened. With Ryan’s attention focused on anyone, but her, Carly feels pressured and manipulated to be with Will. It isn’t until Ryan finds Carly battered and bruised at Will’s party that he becomes her lifeline and a new chapter of their relationship begins.

In order to make Ryan understand the truth from the beginning, I wanted Carly to tell her story directly to him. I felt it had more power, a more emotional punch. In this way she could explain the choices she made and the feelings she had along the way. Add to that the awful events that ensued at Will’s end of school party and everything that followed, it seemed that a letter of some sort was the best way for her to share her thoughts, feelings, and emotions. A letter written directly to Ryan could’ve worked, but toward the end of the book, Ryan issues a challenge to Carly, it is there that I decided it would be better for her to write something for the world to see. Writing it in a blog and making it public is for her, a catharsis, and a way to connect not just with Ryan, but with other girls and women who have had similar tales of sexual assault and abuse.

I know that second person point of view is not popular. But it was a risk I was willing to take. Because Carly is speaking directly to Ryan, there are many instances where she will use the pronouns you and yours. My thoughts were that this would add to the connection between the reader and Carly’s story. I hope you enjoy To My Hero and that it leaves you with a sense of hope.
