Friday Finds is an event hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading where we showcase the books you ‘found’ and added to your To Be Read (TBR) list… whether you found them online, or in a bookstore, or in the library — wherever! (they aren’t necessarily books you purchased).

Title: The Handmaid's Tale
Published: 1985
Offred is a Handmaid in the Republic of Gilead. She may leave the home of the Commander and his wife once a day to walk to food markets whose signs are now pictures instead of words because women are no longer allowed to read. She must lie on her back once a month and pray that the Commander makes her pregnant, because in an age of declining births, Offred and the other Handmaids are valued only if their ovaries are viable. Offred can remember the years before, when she lived and made love with her husband, Luke; when she played with and protected her daughter; when she had a job, money of her own, and access to knowledge. But all of that is gone now...

Why I added it to my TBR? Dystopia and feminism-What's not to love?

Title: Zelah Green
Published: Oct 1 2011
My Name is Zelah Green and I’m a cleanaholic.
I spend most of my life running away from germs. And dirt. And people. And I’m just about doing OK and then my stepmother packs me off to some kind of hospital to live with a load of strangers. It’s stuck in the middle of nowhere. Great. There’s Alice who’s anorexic. Caro who cuts herself. Silent Sol who has the cutest smile. And then there’s me.
Why I added it to my TBR? Very interesting title and blurb. A friend of mine recommended this to me and I trust her. :) Need I say more? :)Title: Zelah Green

Gosh, I haven't read The Handmaid's Tale in so long. I'd love to read it again and compare it to some of the current YA dystopian stuff.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read either books but know a lot of people who have read Margaret Atwood's books so I'm sure it's a great choice.
ReplyDeleteZelah Green sounds really good and so I'm going to have a look at a few reviews now.
Thanks for sharing! :)
Zelah Green sounds so cute and I love the cover and pink writing! I've heard of The Handmaid's Tale but never read it. Must change that one day :) thanks so much for stopping by my blog! Happy reading :)
ReplyDeleteThe Handmaid's Tale isn't my type of thing, but Zelah Green looks like it could be a great book! The cover and font is really cute, too. ^.^ I LOVE your blog header, with all the pink flowers - it's so pretty! :) Thanks for sharing your finds for this week and for stopping by my Friday Finds. :3
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading! :D

Zelah Green sounds really interesting! It's definitely one I would probably pick up. I mean really, the hospital sounds like it's full of opportunity for drama and portrayal of tough issues.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of The Handmaid's Tale, but for some reason knowing it's by Margaret Atwood intimidates me. I don't know why! It's something like because I know the name without having read any books it must be popular or a classic and ahhh... Intimidated.
The second one about the girl who is a germaphobe sounds interesting. My sister had major issues with that for a while. She's not as bad now, but it was a real fear and anxiety. Great choices, Nuzaifa. :)
ReplyDeleteI know where Zelah Green comes from ;) Now the second book is on my TBR though I wouldn't NEED it as I promise it didn't end on a cliffhanger (: Glad people are interested- I want to put up my review right now, but I haven't typed it. Oops!
ReplyDeleteThe Zelah Green has me intrigued. Am going to check a few reviews for more info, think it will make my to-read shortlist though :D
